Implenia Recycling Platform: In its dedicated pursuit to uphold the circular economy’s ideals in the construction industry, Implenia actively seeks every opportunity to recycle excavation materials and construction waste. To achieve this objective, the company inaugurated a state-of-the-art recycling center in the Geneva region during mid-2021. This facility is designed to process a wide range of construction by-products efficiently, transforming them into valuable materials for reuse in new construction projects, thereby minimizing waste and promoting environmental sustainability within the sector.
SAPA SA, an subsidiary of Implenia, has established an advanced asphalt manufacturing facility on its premises, significantly minimizing transport requirements. This facility is capable of producing up to 240 tons of asphalt each hour and is adept at incorporating large amounts of recycled materials. A hot gas generator integrated within the plant guarantees reduced emission levels.
The company is also gearing up to set up photovoltaic panels over an area of 2,800 square meters to create green energy, a portion of which will be utilized onsite.
Asphalt plant
▪ Start: October 2021
▪ Operations: 5 employees (24/7)
▪ Output: 240 tons/h (320 tons/h)
▪ Drum with hot gas generator for counter-current recycling
▪ Hot material storage: 150 tons + AE 2 x 25 tons
▪ Introduction of AE (Asphalt Emulsion): < 100% hot or < 40% cold
▪ Finished material storage: 4 x 80 tons
▪ 7 bitumen tanks (480 tons storage)
▪ 2,800 m2 of solar panels (625,000 kWh/year)
▪ 100,000 liters of fuel storage
With a substantial investment of 20 million Swiss francs in this venture, Implenia aims to bolster the local material recycling loop and diminish transportation dependencies. The project’s goal is to annually produce 150,000 tons of gravel and 25,000 tons of asphalt. The adoption of sanctioned processing techniques, accompanied by rigorous inspections, ensures that the recycled construction materials adhere to the utmost quality standards.
